On January 19, Junior Open Mic (JOM) welcomed 68 young performers for an electrifying celebration of music and creativity. Artists ranging in age from 4 to 18 took to the stage, each bringing their unique talents to life. From first-time performers to seasoned musicians, from soulful singers to masterful instrumentalists, every young artist captivated the audience with their passion and energy.

Empowering Young Talents Together

At TAM, we’re proud to partner with JOM to provide a welcoming platform for these budding stars. By equipping the venue with everything they need to “turn up, plug in, and play,” we aim to empower young performers to focus entirely on their craft and shine on stage.

Beyond the music, the event celebrated the spirit of community. Families, friends, and music enthusiasts came together to cheer on the young performers, fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and mutual appreciation.

What's Next

With a strong start to 2025, TAM is excited to continue supporting Junior Open Mic and the next generation of artists. Since 2017, over 1,800 young performers have stepped onto a JOM stage, and we can’t wait to be part of this incredible journey!

The Next JOM at TAM will be May 18.  Together, let’s keep empowering young talents and creating unforgettable experiences!

At the Temple of Art and Music (TAM), open mic nights and jamming sessions have become essential stepping stones for emerging musicians. TAM regularly hosts these events, including the beloved weekly British Blues Jam and Singers @ Sunday Spots, which have been staples since TAM’s inception. These gatherings not only help artists build confidence, refine their skills, and connect with potential bandmates, but they also create an immersive experience for audiences who play a vital role in supporting new talent.

For many musicians, TAM’s open mic nights offer a chance to step onto the stage for the first time in a welcoming, supportive environment. This low-pressure setting allows artists to test their sound, connect with the audience, and receive immediate feedback- all crucial for building the confidence needed to excel in live performance. These sessions help emerging musicians find their voices, grow in confidence, and hone their stage presence.

The weekly British Blues Jam and other jam sessions provide musicians with a live, hands-on workshop where they can experiment with different sounds, improvise, and collaborate with others. These sessions often spark connections that lead to lasting partnerships or even the formation of new bands. Many groups that perform at TAM today can trace their roots back to these very jam nights, born from the creative energy and camaraderie fostered at TAM.

Audiences at TAM are also an essential part of this experience. By attending events like Singers @ Sunday Spots or the Great British Blues Jam, audience members actively support the artists, providing the encouragement and energy that help musicians grow in confidence. Brazilian Carnival is famously the most vibrant, energetic, and culturally diverse party in the world, usually culminating right before Lent begins. Samba schools dazzle with colorful parades, while revelers fill the streets in festive costumes, celebrating rhythms like forró, xote, axé, frevo, funk, and - of course - samba. For many, Carnival represents joy, unity, and a release of everyday cares, as communities come together to dance, sing, and experience Brazil’s dynamic musical heritage.

But who says the celebration has to stop on March 8? This year, we’re keeping the spirit alive beyond the traditional dates. On Saturday, March 15, head to TAM (Temple of Art & Music) for a high-energy night with Pamela Fom - a Rio de Janeiro native and renowned Forró singer - and her band, Carnival Social Club. They’ll bring the unforgettable rhythms of Brazil straight to London, reviving the Carnival frenzy.

Alongside the show, there’s a fancy-dress/costume contest (with a bucket of beer prize!), plus an unceremonious karaoke session to keep the excitement going. 

Carnival might officially end on March 8, but don’t let the fun fade. Come keep the party alive and dance the night away!

Dana Gillespie's advancement to the finals of "Una Voce Per San Marino" with "The Last Polar Bear" underscores the innovative interplay between AI and human creativity in music production. Confirmed by San Marino RTV, Gillespie stands out as one of the eight established artists in this prestigious competition. This song's journey began with Casperaki's initiative that leveraged AI chatbots for public collaboration in songwriting, culminating in its development at a London songwriting camp. Gillespie's connection to "The Last Polar Bear" was sparked at an AI presentation at the Temple of Art and Music, facilitated by tech entrepreneur Sieng Van Tran. This encounter led to her impactful recording of the song, which subsequently won widespread acclaim on YouTube.
